It is on the site of a 'Royal' Jeu de Paume (Louis XIV, says we are "practised the Palm"), that the Theatre of Aix in Provence is launched in 1756 and opened in 1787. The city became owner in 1829 and appealed to Dominique Bluzet, in October 1996, to ensure the direction. In 1998, the municipality undertook total renovation work, causing its closure for two seasons and the relocation of representations to the wood of the light room. The new Theatre was inaugurated in May 2000 as well as the stage curtain by the painter Gérard Traquandi. The room of the Jeu de Paume is enrolled in the supplementary inventory of Historical Monuments since 1981.
